My Brothers Have nicer Hair

"Your brothers have nicer hair than yours" "I wish she had hair like her brothers". These have been some of the things I've been hearing since I was born. Its funny how genes work huh? I know the Black Hair community is kinda out of saying good hair bad hair, nice hair, all hair is equal. whatever. My brothers have hair that I want, or wish I had, and yes that sums it up to them having nicer hair than mine, its not just different, its  Their hair naturally has more body, more sheen, bigger curls, not big 3c curls, but more defined,   maybe 4A and that smooth, "pretty hair" look. If they grew out their hair, I'm sure they wouldn't have to do so much as I've been doing to try to keep my hair healthy.

ME ...My bro
Im the only girl for my mother, and when I was born, she says she could see the big difference in my hair and in my 2 older brothers. My eldest brother, has straight hair, jet black and shine. The 2nd one has curly hair, the curls are bigger, his hair is dense, full of body, when he was about 1 year and a couple months he had a big afro and she loved combing it, and even wished he was a girl so that she wouldn't have cut.

I came in the picture, she saw my hair and was saddened by the sight of my hair. A few family members and friends even noted that she doesnt the good hair like the boys, it hurts her, and hurt me when I heard, cuz I'm thinking, they dont need hair on their heads, they get a cut weekly, and here I am struggling with my hair.
My hair had smaller curls, I had less dense hair, it shrunk more. It was shorter and seemingly less attractive.
Genes, genetics, whatever, we have the same parents and you would think that we would all get the "good" attributes, sadly its not like that. Maybe my life would have been different if had had hair like theirs, maybe not. Going through all I went through with my hair, as  made me who I am today. Made me look past negative comments made me strong, almost unbreakable. Its as if all the bad remarks I got in the past, as made me immune to negativity. The negative comments and remarks will never stop, someone somewhere will always have something to say about what you wear, how u look, if u gained a pound. Whatever, people will never stop criticizing, some people have to you down to bring themselves up, or make them look good, unfortunately at  my expense. So when person say shit bout my hair, I laugh, I join em, and we all have a ball.

My years of being hit with negative about my hair has made me realize that I am not my hair. I am beautiful even if  I am bald headed. Beauty comes from inside. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I behold my hair and I see beauty.

My Hair Care 4C Product Junkie

The 31 of December marked  7 months of me being natural. I'm still in the process of finding what works for me, or my staple products. I like to try new stuff, so being a product junkie, even though costly is fun for me.
I've tried quite a few products thus far some, I like, some, not so much.

When I did my big chop, I would wash every other day, when I learnt about co washing, I gave up shampoo, I had to go back to shampooing tho, as my hair would itch badly, I guess that was due to product build up. At that point I would sometimes dilute the shampoo, or use my sons baby shampoo.

Products so far:
In the beginning I used:
- Motions Lavish Moisterizing Shampoo
- Motions Silicon Conditoner
- Motions CPR
These I had before my Big Chop, so I continued to use em
After BC:
- Tresseme Curl Hydration Condtioner
- Herbal Essences Colour me Happy Conditioner
- White Rain Color Splash (havnt used that since)
- Creme of Nature Argan oil Condtioner
- Tresseme Color Thrive Condtioner

I missed out a few products, I am ashamed. LOL. There are a few more that I want to try.
The products I love the best is;
VO5 moisture milk conditioner, Argan oil Sulphate free Shampoo (Creme of Nature) Argan oil Deep Condtioner (creme of Nature) Coconut oil, Olive oil, castor oil, Cantu shea butter leave in and african pride shea moisture. Those work fine,

I DC weekly, and protective styling. Healthy hair is my main goal.

Protective Styling

So over the wknd I decided to wash my braids and re-do  the front portion, looks neater. I was originally planning on keeping it in for 4 weeks, but it seems it may be able to last longer than that. Originally it took me 5 days to complete the braids. My first attempt at this particular style.  must say I am proud of  myself. :)

Earlier in my journey, abt 3 months, I was loosing the low hair appeal. I went to an hairdresser to get my hair done, she looked reluctant, and said it looked like something that would take the entire day. For her, that meant less money. Also, I saw her blow drying someones hair she was about to start, and the way she was pulling i and tugging her hair looked so painful, I passed. I went away. I decided to keep wearing my hair as is.

Well, not jus out, I'd put it in finger coils, or 2 strand twist, using Polishing gel and Beautiful Textures Butter. I loved look I achieved with twist out and brush coils. But the fact that I had to wash my hair and re-do it so often made me tired. Working ll day, coming home to a 1 yr old, was not easy at all.

I first did box braids, they took me almost 12 hrs, and weren't as neat as i expected. Also due to the length of my hair, it got fuzzy real quick, so i took it out in a week.
The second one I did was afro kinky twsist, which I kept for 3 weeks, that also

After that I mostly flat twist, or 2 strand twist, My hair is growing at the average rate, I want to retain as much length as possible, so i"ll be doing mostly  protective styles like this, the next one Im planning on doing is Marley Braids, or Nappy Anny. So we'll see how that works.
